Potential Maps in ASEAN Region

The Asia CCUS Potential Map provides information about major CO2 emissions sources, possible storage areas as well as planned and existing gas pipelines to perform preliminary evaluation of CCUS feasibility in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and East Asia Summit (EAS) region.

The major CO2 emissions sources currently include coal power plants, natural gas power plants, steel plants, oil refineries and cement plants.

As a prototype of the Asia CCUS Potential Map, JAPAN NUS Co., Ltd. (JANUS), and Indonesia Center of Excellence for CCS and CCUS (CoE) surveyed three countries (Viet Nam, Malaysia, Indonesia) and visualised the results by creating the maps in the project which Mitsubishi Research Institute, Inc. (MRI) carried out under the support of Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI) of Japan.

The maps are planned to be expanded with more detailed data and additional countries in the Asia CCUS Network. These results could contribute to the progress toward CCUS project deployment in the ASEAN and EAS region.
